About Dr. Shakira

Healing yourself is listening to what your mind, body, and spirit need.

Dr. Shakira Sanchez-Collins, known as “Dr. Shakira”, is a wellness advocate, physician, preacher, pastor, speaker and writer. 

Dr. Shakira helps people flourish in mind, body and spirit. She focuses on addressing the whole person by acknowledging how diet, movement, thoughts, beliefs, life circumstances, and stress can influence our well-being.

A recipient of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Dr. Idoreyin Montague Community Action Award, Dr. Shakira is also an advocate for community care, which focuses on the well-being of communities, especially marginalized communities. A gifted speaker, Dr. Shakira was inducted in the 35th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College.

She has been featured on CBS Chicago, WGN Chicago and in the Chicago Tribune. She has also appeared on the podcast, Black Girl Fit Files. A prolific writer, Dr. Shakira has published articles in ABC News Online, Urban Cusp Magazine, and American Diabetes Association Diabetes Spectrum Journal, among others.

Dr. Shakira is a graduate of Yale University and Duke University. With training from Johns Hopkins, Harvard and Northwestern, she combines her passion for health, wellness, faith, and spirituality to help both individuals and communities.
